During the World Cup, Hwang Hee-chan’s black vest drew attention during his undressing ceremony. The black vest is also worn by the LG team.
The third round of the group stage between Korea and Portugal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar held at dawn on the 3rd. At the end of the match, Hwang Hee-chan led Korea to advance to the World Cup round of 16 with a dramatic winning goal. Hwang Hee-chan, who scored the goal, threw off his uniform and enjoyed the joy. However, it was the black vest that stood out at Hwang Hee-chan’s undressing ceremony. It drew the attention of football fans and attracted a lot of attention.
The black vest worn by Hwang Hee-chan is EPTS (Electronic Performance and Tracking Systems). Performance is measured with a wearable. It has a Global Positioning System (GPS), rotational motion sensors, acceleration and heart rate 스포츠토토 sensors to record players’ information during their games. By collecting the amount of activity, range, and posture changes of players, the information can be used in various areas such as player selection, tactical changes, fatigue, and injury status checks. EPTS has been approved for official match wear by FIFA (International Football Federation) since 2017 and is already widely used.
It is also applied in basketball. It is used in the Australian and Argentine leagues, and is also used by the NBA teams Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics.
Changwon LG also started wearing EPTS from the off-season ahead of this season. Until the offseason, according to FIBA (International Basketball Federation), it could not be used in official matches. However, after consulting with KBL, LG was allowed to wear it in the regular league after trial wearing it in a cup competition.
An LG official said, “I started wearing EPTS from the offseason to get information about players’ fatigue and injuries. Currently, it is worn in the regular league, but it was not permitted at the time of introduction, so we are receiving information to the extent of identifying the movement of each player.”
In soccer, detailed information can be obtained based on GPS, but in basketball, there is a limitation that it is indoors, and a separate machine must be installed in the stadium to utilize GPS information.
An LG official said, “Currently, we are comparing practice and the main game by quantifying how much each player ran, how fast they ran, and how high they jumped. We are compiling data by comparing won and drawn matches. There is not enough data yet, but we are studying with various interpretations.”
Director Jo Sang-hyun said, “After the round is over, we report and share the data. The fatigue of the players is also measured, and the training intensity is increased by reducing the training intensity for players with high fatigue levels and allowing players with low levels of fatigue to participate in the second team league. EPTS is helping us to manage players’ fatigue and injuries.”
