The Standard English Dictionary defines “finger-wag” as “an act of belittling or disparaging another person. So it’s not uncommon to see older people pointing fingers.
New York Yankees ace 먹튀검증 Gerrit Cole, 32, was caught repeatedly pointing his finger at an opposing manager. It was during a home game against the Seattle Mariners at Yankee Stadium on April 21 (ET).
Cole pitched seven and a third innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts to earn the win in a 4-1 victory.
With an 8-1 record, 2.64 ERA, 106 strikeouts and a .213 batting average in 99 innings pitched in 16 games this season, Cole joins the Tampa Bay Rays’ Shane McClanahan (11-1, 2.12, 97 Ks), Houston Astros’ Framer Valdez (7-5, 2.27, 104 Ks) and Texas Rangers’ Nathan Ivaldi (9-3, 2.80, 96 Ks) in the AL Cy Young Award race.
However, Cole had a nervous breakdown while pitching that day and ended up wagging his finger at opposing manager Scott Servais, 56. With the Yankees leading 3-1 in the top of the seventh inning, right fielder Jose Caballero came to bat.
Cole induced a strike and a foul on the first and second pitches, respectively, to move the count to 2-1, but as Caballero waited for the third pitch, he called for time. After signing an autograph with catcher Jose Trevino, Cole threw the ball.
The ball sailed well over Caballero’s head and into the backstop. It was a fastball clocked at 96.7 mph, and while it was unclear if it was a mistake or intentional, the local commentator called it “an interesting play.” Caballero had gotten on Cole’s nerves and made a ridiculous pitch.
Cole eventually got Caballero to swing at a 98.2 mph fastball on a full count to end the inning. As he walked off the mound, he stared at the Seattle dugout at third base and waved his right index finger from side to side 15 times, giving a mocking look. Apparently, something on the Seattle bench had struck a nerve.
After the game, Cole told reporters, “Sometimes a high fastball works. It can dazzle hitters,” Cole said with a serious joke. The pitch was clearly intentional.
“Cole really hates it when I make him repeat the pitch clock, and I’m sure he gets mad,” Caballero said of the same situation, adding, “The rules are there for all of us. You have to be ready by the time there’s eight seconds left, and that’s what I did, and that’s my routine. I hope he’s used to it,” he defended.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, “I think the ball would have raised the Seattle antenna higher,” adding, “I saw the Mariners manager wagging 토토 가입머니 his finger at Cole. Cole just did the same thing to him. Of course, he had a mocking look on his face.”
“I was coming off the mound and the manager threw a few words at me, and he gave me the finger, so I gave him the finger back,” Cole explained. “I didn’t say anything,” he said.
He continued, “I didn’t say anything. I just saw him pointing at me. I’ve never seen a manager give me the finger in my life.”
Meanwhile, the Yankees have won all seven of Cole’s starts following a loss this season. Cole has four wins and a 1.87 ERA in those games. Aces are stoppers.
